soccer

This Spring, Braylon decided to play soccer instead of tee ball. Brad and I aren't ready for two sport seasons yet, so we made him choose one or the other. I've never played soccer and know nothing about it, but I was glad Braylon picked it. He has a lot of energy and loves to run, so soccer is perfect for that. So far, he has had two games and is having a ball! He scored one goal in the first game, three in the second, and fell about 4,000 times. And I thought Wyatt was the clumsy one. He seems to be getting better and loves his team. It sure is entertaining to watch those cute lil guys (and girls) run around out there!

The Children's Museum

A couple weeks ago, the boys and I took a trip to the Woodlands Children's Museum. The firetruck center and the water table were their favorite, but they also had lots of fun digging, playing with a giant Light Bright, watching a juggling act, grocery shopping, and listening to a interactive story. Braylon also got a glitter tattoo that he was pretty proud of. Despite feeling a little under the weather, it was nice to see the boys' smiles and get out of the house for some fun.

Heaven's New Angel

My dear, sweet Granny battled unimaginable pain for the last two plus years after falling and breaking her neck. She went through rehab after the second break and seemed to have good and bad days. But on Friday, January 22nd, she returned to the hospital with her third neck fracture. While there, she was still so selfless and loving as she was more concerned about her kids being tired and hungry than of herself.

The doctors did all they could to manage her pain, but it wasn't enough. My Dad and his siblings made the difficult decision to start hospice care as they knew in their hearts it was what was best for her.

The following Friday, the 29th, we traveled to Rockwall to visit her back at the nursing home. Saturday morning, she finally woke up after being asleep for about 48 hours, and she remarkably was very responsive. My brother, sister, and I got to tell her we loved her and she was able to say it back. She acknowledged us three by name and even smiled a couple times when my Dad talked to her about her childhood. It was such a blessing to have those moments with her before her passing. It was almost like she fought to stay awake so she could see all the visitors that came to see her. My sister and I stood with her to tell her goodbye for the night, and she mumbled some things we couldn't understand, but three things we heard clear as day were, "Christi," "That's my namesake (my sister is named after her)", and "I'm in terrible pain." We held her hands, and began to pray over her while the nurse went to get more pain medication. Not long after that, she finally fell asleep and never woke back up.

Today, one day before her 86th birthday, she joined her brothers and sisters, two deceased husbands, her momma and daddy, and many other loved ones in Heaven. She leaves behind four kids, twelve grandkids, and 25 great grandkids. I thank the Lord she went peacefully and is finally pain free once and for all.

She was such a big part of our lives growing up. All of our childhood, we were at Granny and Papa's house. We rode our bikes there after school everyday, and she would have the most delicious home-cooked meals prepared for us. She had great pride in her family and loved us fiercely. I could go on and on about the wonderful woman she was, but all who have met her already know what a blessing she was during her lifetime. We all will miss her immensely!!

My sister, Bonnie, and Harper came to stay with us a couple nights while both our husbands were on hunting trips. The boys loved playing with Harper.

The Holidays Went By in a Blink

This year we celebrated Christmas with both sides of the family in the same weekend. It went well and flew by! It was so nice to see everyone all together though. We had a very merry Christmas and are feeling blessed and excited for the new year.

Dad worked hard helping Brad, Cody & Dane on his hay barn (which explains the sun -kissed cheeks), but he hung in the til maybe 9 p.m. HAPPY NEW YEAR, DAD! ;)
